Mission

The Research Training Program is the Australian Government's funding for research degrees. The government allocates it to universities, which award it as fee offsets and stipends.

02

What you get

The value depends on the university. The department says RTP funds tuition fee offsets, a stipend for general living costs and allowances for research costs, for both domestic and overseas students. ANU offers an RTP International Fee Offset Scholarship with Overseas Student Health Cover for you and your family, and the stipend is a separate award. The University of Sydney pays AUD 44,293 a year at the 2027 rate with a 100% fee offset.

03

Who can apply

You apply for a research degree at a university that makes RTP awards to international students. The department funds overseas students alongside domestic ones, and none of the pages read set a nationality rule that excludes Vietnam. You contact each university directly, and you can apply to more than one.

04

What they look for

Each university sets its own criteria, usually research potential and academic record.

05

The fine print

There is no national deadline. Check each university's rounds and read the terms of its award.
